International Women's Day

Purva Bharati Trust organized International Women's Day in two districts of Assam, Jorhat and Dima Hasao.

In Jorhat it is observed at Balikhuti, by Purva Bharati Trust in Collaboration with WinG-Assam and with the support of Saboday Mahila Sewa Samaj. It was a day long programme consisting of fun games for the women followed by open discussion on "Violence against women : role of civil society and the law enforcing agencies".

The programme was attended by about 420 women's from different villages. Ms. Dipali Phukan, ex-president of Nari Suraksha Samiti; Mr. Dibya Jyoti Dutta, Advocate; Mr. DulaKakhoria, Advocate; Manjit Kaliata, Manab Adhikar Suraksha Samiti and Rijumoni Sarma Dutta of WinG-Assam were invited as guests. The dignitaries enlightened the participants on significance of International Women's Day and made the open discussion lively and meaningful with their experience sharing and knowledge on the issue. At end the winners of fun games were given prize by the dignitaries.

In Dima Hasao the Women's Day was very special and significant. "Pledge for Parity" was the theme of this year International Women's Day. WinG Dima Hasao with the support of Purva Bharati Trust organized the International Women's Day. Ms. Laljubhi Nampui, Joint Secretary of N.C. Hills Autonomous Council, Mr. Khomendra Warisa, Deputy Director of Social welfare, Mr. Teishu Enghipi, DSP of Haflong and Ms. Purobi Phonglo, Public relation Officer, Dima Hasao and Ms. Bina Hakmosa, Teacher of Boys Higher Secondary School, Haflong and Secretary of Dibarai Mahila Samiti. The women group taking opportunity of the day had submitted a memorandum to Ms. Laljubhi Nampui, Joint Secretary of N.C. Hills Autonomous Council, addressing to Chieh executive Member of N.C.Hills Autonomous Council, Dima Hasao demanding

•  33% reservation of seats for women in District Autonomous Council

•  Establishment of District Legal services Authority in Haflong

•  Compensation to survivors of Violence against Women under Assam Victim Compensation scheme to all the eligible survivors till date from the coming into effect of the Scheme

•  Establishment of Shelter home for women and child

•  Trauma Counseling center
